About Me

YKS_iPhone060613 009

Hi! Thanks for reading my blog! My name is Yuki, and I’m working abroad as a Foreign Service Officer, where I meet students everyday who want to study in the United States!

I am a former education professional with many years of highly selective admissions experience at a small East Coast liberal arts Ivy as well as a mid-sized research institution on the West Coast. I also read for the admissions committee for my graduate school.

After reading many personal statements from Asian American high school students with the phrase “I’m not just another Asian American…(fill in the blank with stereotype),” I decided to write about Asian Americans in higher education.

My goals are to 1) educate readers about issues related to Asian Americans and international students in higher education, 2) offer college admission advice to high school students and parents, and 3) serve as a resource for students with questions about applications, college life, and related issues.

Send me your questions at asian.am.education[at]gmail[dot]com

Hello. I’d love to send you a copy of PERSONAL STATEMENT, a new young adult satire by Emmy-Nominated writer Jason Odell Williams. It’s about competitive volunteering and the rising seniors who tell the story are a diverse bunch. I think you’d really enjoy it (or have a strong opinion regardless). Best, Saira Rao
